Neighbourhood
2018-Dec-17, Monday 07:23 pmThere's a street near my house where every second house puts up giant displays of Christmas lights. This is a suburban street with a handful of tiny cafes and restaurants at one end, and easy access to a major road at the other end.
Every year, the neighbourhood turns out to wander down this street and take in the artistry and extravagance. It gets quite busy there some nights, with whole families out for a stroll and children everywhere. The cars slow right down, creeping along, to look at the houses... and to not hit all the people milling around. It's quite a nice atmosphere, actually.
After about a decade of this, the local council has finally caught on. This year they've put up signs: "Enjoy the lights and some local foods!" I guess to attract visitors to where all the locals go. Took them long enough, though.
